.Military- the War of 1812
Note: He enlisted at the age of 18 at Spartanburg, South Carolina in Captain
Thomas White's Company of Militia. In old age he received a pension for this
service. He was a soldier in the Indian Wars from Franklin County, Georgia.
His grave has a War Department marker because of service in the War of 1812.
He was too old for active duty in the War Between the States of the 60's, but
belonged to the Home Guard and protected the women and children in the absence
of the husbands and fathers at the front. He often took his negro slaves and
built or repaired houses or helped work the crops. It is said he did much to
keep civil order and provide protection for the community. He was an outstanding
figure in his day and was familiarly and affectionately known by all as "Uncle
Clacky." He was a member of the Beaverdam Baptist Church, a devout Christian
gentleman, as well as, an ardent patriot and a lover of liberty. .
