Major and his brother Jesse were bequeathed their father's plantation in Goochland County, Va.  He sold his land in 1735 and later purchased land north of the Neuse River near Falling Creek in 1744.  Major purchased real estate in Lenoir County more than forty times, and was granted five or six thousand acres of land.
